“The Band Project has been a fantastic addition to our musical provision. The tailored material has inspired and helped each band grow as musicians. This, along with the experience of the end of term gigs, has also seen the children develop in confidence. Get involved!“
Mr J. Marconi – Head of Music, Dorset House Prep School
The After School Band Course gives students the chance to experience every aspect of playing and performing in a band through their school. Our aim is to become a valued part of the music culture in the schools we work with and to help young musicians grow and achieve their ambitions.
The course offers bands weekly one hour rehearsals learning and arranging a set of three or four songs during a term. The songs are chosen with each of the bands to make sure it’s music they love and want to play but can equally challenge and help develop their playing skills. The tutors are all gigging musicians, fully trained by company founder Chris Mountford and all have been DBS checked. Each term ends with a gig at the school for friends, family and staff so the bands have an enjoyable goal to work towards. Not only do the bands perform at the school but they are also invited to play at their nearest Band Project Centre’s end of term show for an authentic gig experience in a real venue. We can also arrange recording sessions in professional studios for older bands – we recommend year eight and above.
With the combination of playing the music they love and our relaxed, encouraging and fun approach, The Band Project builds the self confidence, self expression, creativity, mutual and self respect and teamwork of everyone taking part.
“The Band Project has been an amazing inspiration for my son. The band absolutely love their weekly sessions; the teaching is extremely positive and is very much of the belief that music is there to be enjoyed by everyone. Chris and his team are fantastic and we feel lucky to be part of The Band Project ”

The After School Band Sessions support the performance units of both GCSE and A Level music courses alongside being able to prepare students for music scholarships, university and higher education courses. The Band Project can also be used as for the Duke of Edinburgh award.
The Band Project is open to all instruments – we’ve had everything from individual brass and wind players to full sections, strings and even an electric bag pipe. All bands are grouped by age and ability for the best fit musically and socially.
£164 incl VAT per student (a minimum of four, ideally five, students is required for a band to run)
Fees are charged direct to parents and payment plans are available
Recording sessions are charged at £84 incl VAT per student
(a minimum of four students need to book for a session to run)
The Band Project also offers two hour one off workshops which provide an authentic taste of rehearsing and playing as part of a band. During the workshop each band learns and arranges a great Rock or Pop song to performance standard working with one of our team of tutors – all DBS checked and all gigging musicians. The workshops are high energy, fast
paced but still provide a fun, relaxed and encouraging atmosphere for young musicians to play great music.
The workshop is structured as follows:
The first sixty minutes band focus on learning their individual parts and then being able to play their chosen song through from start to finish. The second sixty minutes spent creating a unique arrangement – stops, accents, unison figures, solos etc – and focusing on performance skills. The arrangement is key to making the song unique to each band, build students confidence and celebrate their playing. Most of all it stops what they play being just ‘Band Karaoke’!
Ideally we would look to work with multiple bands during the course of a school day to allow us to put on an end of day gig for friends, parents and staff and give the bands a focus to work towards. The performance aspect of playing music is where we believe students can gain the biggest sense of achievement.
Workshops are a great way for your school to experience what The Band Project oers, especially ahead of launching After School Courses the following term and giving students and parents a chance to experience The Band Project before singing up.
For a band workshop we require a minimum of four students and a maximum of seven students per band. Band workshops are open to all instruments, with notice we can have parts written for dierent instruments to maker sure no one is excluded.
“The Band Project is just what music students need to give life to what they are studying. Being able to play together with other people and with other instruments playing music of your choice in a ‘grown up’ environment with professional musicians is very inspiring and really great fun. My ten year old son was so excited at the end of the workshop and felt really grown up and ‘cool’. ”
